Why should I have Orthodontic Treatment?
Upon having yourself checked through the dentist, it is advisable to go through the Orthodontics treatment if you see a noticeable gap between your teeth, change in the jaw lining or in the positioning of your upper / lower teeth on the inside or at the front. The treatment helps you adjust the jaw line, positioning of your teeth by fixing the braces.

In children, it is required to wait for the right time till all the teeth come up. However, even adults can go through the treatment upon the diagnosis.

Types of Braces:
- Removable Braces: While most braces need to be removed from the professional dentist; however, there are removable braces available with delicate wires and strings attached and that gives a little pressure to move the teeth. This is the simplest treatment form recommended at the initial stage.
- Fixed Braces: These braces have brackets and bands which are temporarily stuck to the teeth, and there is a wire which is attached to all the brackets and allows the movement of teeth.
- Functional Braces: It helps in changing the growth way of Jaws by using the power of jaw muscles.
- Invisible Braces: They are tough moulds which are created from clear plastic used to straighten your teeth. As they are so clear, it does not show up visibility to others.
It can also be removed easily, in case the patient needs to eat something or brush or clean between their teeth. However, for best results, they must be worn for at least 22 to 23 hours a day.
Retainers:
Retainers are appliances that keep the teeth in the right position once the treatment is over. The retainers can be removable or fixed, depending on the issue.
Importance of Head Gear:
Along with wearing braces, it is also advised for some people to wear headgear during the evening or at night. Avoiding the headgear may cause the front teeth to come out, after the treatment.
Duration:
Depending on the teeth size and criticality of the issue it can take from a few months to 2.5 years for a complete treatment.
Will it hurt?
The initial few days may give a few discomforts; however, it settles over the period of 4 to 6 weeks once the braces are adjusted.
Eating Habits:
Sugary food and drinks should be avoided as this could damage the teeth. Further timely cleaning is required for teeth, as due to braces trapping the food.
Is this a permanent treatment?
Even after using the retainers, there may be minor tooth movements to happen throughout the life, so there is no permanent guarantee; however, it is unusual to change the shape enough to need more treatment in future.
