Root Canal is basically to remove cavity generated within the centre of the tooth. The tooth’s nerve is inside the root canal. There is a soft area within the root canal which is known as pulp.
Root Canal Treatment is used to treat the teeth which are decayed or suffer from an infection. The root canal treatment involves cleaning the tooth and then sealing it after the pulp and nerve are removed. It is very essential to complete the treatment for this, as like any other dental problem it infects the other teeth in the mouth.
Removing the tooth nerve does not impact your day to day functions. The nerve helps you feel the sensation of hot and cold. Therefore, removing it from one tooth does not hamper your sensation overall, as the nerve of the other tooth still function to help you feel the sensation.
The reason it needs to be removed is that it is already damaged for the particular tooth due to the cavity. The treatment ensures that there is no further infection spreading around the other teeth, as the bacteria and other decayed debris can cause a major infection to the other tooth.
If not treated timely it can cause:
- Swelling which may spread through face, neck or head.
- Loss of bone around the tip of the root.
- It may create a hole due to the infection through the side of tooth impacting it to the passage into the gums or through the cheeks with the passage into the skin which in turn can become critical for your skin.

The treatment involves the following steps
- Anesthesia: To start the anesthesia is given to numb the tooth and avoid any kind of sensation during the treatment. So that you can feel relaxed during the treatment.
- Cleaning: At the start of treatment using our tools, we clean your tooth by removing bacteria which has caused decaying and cavities. The entire pulp and debris are removed during the cleaning process.
- Sealing: Once the cleaning is complete, we use a material made of rubber and paste. This is called gutta-percha. We first shape the canals and then place this Gutta-percha to seal the tooth. After that, a temporary cover is fitted above the gutta-percha till the time a cap is fitted on top of the tooth.
- Capping: Once all the above process is completed, a crown or capping is placed to ensure it does not get infected again.
